I Am Jackson: Kyle Barron

Kyle Barron

What is your hometown?

I’m originally from Rowlett, Texas, just outside of Dallas. I moved to Jackson in 2020 to take a leadership role at Jackson State Community College. What started as a career opportunity quickly became so much more. My family and I fell in love with the people, the pace, and the purpose we found here, and now we are proud to call it home.

What is your profession?

I’m the Director of Special Projects at Jackson Regional Airport. My background is a mix of higher education, nonprofit leadership, and small business, but everything I’ve done has centered around helping people and communities grow. I was incredibly fortunate to work at the Greater Jackson Chamber, and my focus during that time leaned heavily on recruiting jet service and improving our airport’s infrastructure. I never saw myself working in aviation, but now I can’t imagine doing anything else. The airport is a major part of Jackson’s future, connecting us to opportunity, helping attract new investment, and showing people that something exciting is happening here. It’s a front door to our region, and I’m proud to help make it stronger.

Where have you volunteered or contributed your time in efforts to give back?

I’ve volunteered with the Downtown Rotary Club, served on the board of the Jackson Downtown Development Corporation, and worked closely with the STAR Center through Dancing with the Stars and Black Tie & Boxing. I’m always looking for ways to support organizations that are making a real impact in people’s lives.

What are some of your favorite things about Jackson?

Jackson has a real sense of momentum, but it hasn’t lost its warmth. People still wave at you in the store. Neighbors look out for each other. And at the same time, we’re seeing growth, new energy, and big plans taking shape. From day one, my family and I felt welcomed, and we try to pass that same feeling along to others. (Coming from a big city, this does NOT happen everywhere. It is special!)

Three words that best describe you.

Resourceful. Purposeful. Connector.

Favorite place for going out?

We love spending time at The Amp during live music season, eating downtown, and taking the kids to our parks. There’s always something to do, and we find so many don’t know about how lively our city is!

What is one thing that you do not go a day without?

Dr. Pepper and at least one crazy idea.

Finish this statement: I AM JACKSON because…

I believe in where we’re headed. Whether it’s helping our airport grow, supporting small businesses, or just being a good neighbor, I’m proud to be part of Jackson’s story. This city is taking off, and I’m glad to be on board. (Couldn’t resist the airport puns.)
