No Place Like Home: Charleston Abode in the Heart of Downtown Jackson

Story & Photography by Lindsay Allison

Newlyweds Jake and Karlie Carroll moved from Hardin County to Jackson for work. When looking for a home they sought to find something unique with a historical feel. Although the home they purchased is new, the downtown location gave it the older feel they were looking for.

Located directly behind Jackson Walk Apartments and in the heart of downtown, they immediately fell in love with the new development in downtown Jackson. One if their favorite aspects of the home is being within walking distance to the summer concert series that takes place at the AMP.

When not at home grilling and entertaining with friends, the couple may be found spending weekends on the lake, golfing, running and traveling. They are very active in the community and attend Englewood Baptist Church.

KC: Kelly Smith, owner of Kelly & Co, and Interiors Inc. decorated the home.

VIP: How would you describe the design of this house?

KC: The design is traditional, yet with a contemporary feel. This house reminded us of homes in Charleston and we fell in love with it.

VIP: What are some specific personal touches that you used?

KC: I love traditional and timeless pieces therefore, I wanted to display my china and crystal. My great-grandmother’s china cabinet was the perfect touch to our kitchen to incorporate this look.

VIP: What is your favorite room and why?

KC: The kitchen is our favorite space. I love the natural light that comes in. We love to chat around our large butcher block island and cook new meals together. We also love to have morning coffee on our porch swing.
